What is Physie?
Founded in 1892 by Danish-born Hans Christian
Bjelke-Petersen, Physical Culture, or Physie
(pronounced "fizzy') is a sport for women from 4
years up which aims to build confidence, posture,
flexibility and fitness through exercise.
The syllabus is updated annually and is performed to modern
music. It consists of standing and floor exercises,
aerobic warm-up and modern dance. Choreography is age
appropriately designed to teach movement to music, rhythm,
co-ordination and balance.
The Bjelke-Petersen School of Physical Culture has been
involved in a large scale of public events during recent
years. These include the N.R.L. Grand Final, the N.S.W.
Centenary of Federation Parade, Darling Harbour Christmas
Pageant and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2000
Summer Olympics in Sydney.
The Physical Culture year culminates in a series of
friendly competitions for both teams and individuals.
Physical Culture provides a safe, friendly environment
which aims to develop a healthy body and mind whilst
forming friendships that last a lifetime.
